Pre-pandemic, the growth of bars and pubs had begun and then there was a pause for the whole world. Fast forward to 2021 (post-pandemic) the growth seems even more rapid. The kind of growth and the number of bars we see in a locality; it’s easy to conclude that this has been adapted from Western Culture which people have found as one of the convenient ways to maintain work-life balance. In the Food and Beverage Industry (F&B) in 2022 the market size was recorded as Rs. 4.5 lakh crore and predicted to reach Rs. 6 lakh crore in 2024.
The bars that are new to town are very innovative and creative. Every new bar is coming up with a new theme that gels with the bar and therefore becomes a theme and so does the ambiance. These may be also inspired by themed cafés and restaurants. It does not stop only with the interior design and ambiance but also with the creative names on the menu for food and drinks. But one thing that sticks commonly to any bar is the dark, dingy, and loud music that keeps the bar going.
Because of the social and cultural upbringing of the country and its people, many bars have seen that a gang of friends may enter but all of them may not be consuming alcohol. To reach a wider reach of the audience who enjoy the theme of a bar but don’t necessarily consume alcohol, bars included a wide range of food menus to their menu list… This kind of arrangement is unique in India.
Cricket or football, watching the matches with your buddies; nothing gets better than this. For the space that bars or pubs have, it’s convenient for them to screen the match on a projector and for their customers to have a good view and also enjoy the menu. Based on the performance of the team, winning or losing, the bar has an added advantage that boosts sales.
People’s views on bars are slowly changing and bars are no longer just informal places to meet friends. Currently, at many bars, many people discuss business deals, have their team discussions etc.. Many times bars have seen that their mid-week sales are the highest, especially on a Wednesday. It’s safe to say that it’s not necessary that only weekends are the days that bars make sales.
